orkut - Messages: "England target ODI success in NZ
The tourists play two Twenty20 games and five one-day internationals against the Kiwis before two Tests in March.

A third straight ODI series win - not achieved since 2003 - is the first aim for Moores, who took charge in May.

'It's an exciting time. It's a case of the one-day side carrying on and gaining momentum,' he explained.

'We make no bones of the fact that we are still working on our one-day team and looking to build one that will gain consistent results.'

England beat India 4-3 in a home one-day series last September before winning in Sri Lanka a month later.

New Zealand get stuck in and on their own patch they can be pretty tough to play

Peter Moores

They lost 3-2 on their previous trip to New Zealand in 2002 and have been beaten in five of their last seven meetings with the Kiwis.

But Moores is confident his team's recent trend of success can continue, starting with the opening Twenty20 game in Auckland on 5 February.

'New Zealand are a very competitive side who get stuck in and generally make the most of what they have,' he added. 'On their own patch they can be pretty tough to play.

'But if you didn't expect to win there would be no point in playing and we expect to win both the one-day and Test ser"

Ryder named in NZ ODI, Twenty20 squads

xplosive batsman Jesse Ryder has been given a chance to prove himself at the international level after being named in New Zealand’s squads for the Twenty20 and One-day Internationals against England.

Ryder has butted heads with New Zealand cricket officials in the past, but chief selector Sir Richard Hadlee said the 23-year-old’s attitude had improved.

“We think he’s made tremendous progress over the last 12 months. There have been issues but we see him as an exciting talent,” he stated after the squads were named on Wednesday.

“He’s an explosive batsman at the top of the order. If he comes off, I think New Zealand cricket will see something really exciting.”

Seam bowler Tim Southee is another newcomer in the Twenty20 squad, while all-rounder Paul Hitchcock returns to both squads after last appearing for the team in 2003-04.

Batsman Mathew Sinclair was dropped from the squad to make way for Ryder, while bowlers James Franklin and Mark Gillespie missed out through injury.

England will face New Zealand in two Twenty20 matches next week. The five match one-day series starts on Feb 9.

New faces in Australia's Twenty20 team | Sports | Cricket | Reuters: "SYDNEY (Reuters) - Australia have named a new-look squad for Friday's Twenty20 international against India in Melbourne.

Ricky Ponting returns as captain after missing the last Twenty20 against New Zealand but just five other members of the test side that beat India made the 13-man squad announced on Wednesday.

Matthew Hayden was left out to give him more time to recover from his hamstring injury while his fellow test opener Phil Jaques also missed out.

Fast bowlers Mitchell Johnson and Stuart Clarke and spinner Brad Hogg were also overlooked, while Shaun Tait was not considered after announcing his retirement on Tuesday.

Ben Hilfenhaus, James Hopes, Nathan Bracken and Ashley Noffke were all added to the bowling roster while Brad Hodge and David Hussey, the brother of established international Mike Hussey, was selected for his international debut.

'He's a good friend of mine, not only my brother, but he's such a fantastic player to watch so I am excited about playing with him,' David Hussey told reporters.

'I'm also excited about playing with Ricky Ponting, the world's best batsman, and Adam Gilchrist who has probably revolutionised the game.'

Australia's chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch said the squad had been selected with an eye on next year's Twenty20 World Cup in Eng"

We don't want to react to Kapil's remarks on IPL: BCCI

"We don't want to react to Kapil's remarks on IPL: BCCI

Mumbai (PTI): The Cricket Board on Monday said it was not interested in reacting to a statement issued by former captain Kapil Dev that the BCCI-promoted Indian Premier League (IPL) would sound a death-knell for domestic tournaments like the Ranji and Deodhar trophies.

'We don't want to react to what he has said,'
BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah told PTI, but some other board sources questioned how the driving force behind Essel Group-promoted rebel cricket league ICL can point fingers at the IPL.

'We want to know how
Kapil Dev's ICL is not spoiling domestic cricket and the IPL would do so. It's totally an illogical statement. He's a frustrated man,' they said when asked for their reaction.

The reaction was to
Kapil's statement to PTI on Sunday.

'Now that
BCCI have sold the eight teams, it is to be seen as to what will happen to states and institutions affiliated to it,' Kapil had said.

'What will happen to state players besides state associations is another question. No one will want to play
Ranji Trophy or Deodhar Trophy. We do not know what would happen to these traditional events.'

'The 75 years of tradition and convention of the Board is lost,' Kapil rued"

Yousuf will take part in IPL players’ bidding, says PCB

Daily Times - Leading News Resource of Pakistan - Yousuf will take part in IPL players’ bidding, says PCB:

"Yousuf will take part in IPL players’ bidding, says PCB

LAHORE: Pakistan batsman Mohammad Yousuf will take part in the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) players’ auction on February 8, a spokesman for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said here on Monday. The Indian Cricket League (ICL) had filed a petition with an arbitration court saying Yousuf had signed an agreement with them, taken an advance and then backed out of his contract. The arbitration court had ordered a stay on the veteran batsman signing up with the IPL. Yousuf had earlier terminated his contract with the ICL in August after PCB chairman Nasim Asharaf persuaded him to do so. The IPL is the Indian cricket board’s multi-million dollar professional Twenty20 league that has been launched to counter the ICL.

“The arbitration proceedings before arbitrator in Mumbai were fixed for January 24 wherein Yousaf was represented by Taffuzal Rizvi, Advocate, who moved two applications before the arbitrator. 1: That the arbitrator is biased as he has passed an ad-interim ex-parte stay order and a suit is pending in the Lahore High Court against this stay. 2: That since Yousaf has already returned the money paid by the ICL without any objection therefore th"

Zaheer, Yuvraj, RP Singh bag inaugural Cricinfo award

New Delhi (PTI): Zaheer Khan, Yuvraj Singh and RP Singh were among the six cricketers who were named winners of the inaugural Cricinfo Awards for their oustanding performance in three different formats of the game.

Apart from the Indian trio, Sri Lanka duo of Kumar Sangakkara and Lasith Malinga and Australia's retiring hero Adam Gilchrist were also the winners.

The winners were selected by a jury comprising Geoffrey Boycott, Ian Chappell, Daryll Cullinan, Tony Greig, Michael Holding, David Lloyd, Sanjay Manjrekar, Ramiz Raja and Ravi Shastri.

Sangakkara won the Test batting prize for his 192 against Australia in Hobart, while Zaheer bagged the Test bowling award for his 5 for 75 in the second Test against England at Trent Bridge.

"It was a really gritty performance by Zaheer Khan, and the Indians will thank him for the memorable victory at Trent Bridge, and that allowed India to go on and win an exciting series," Boycott said.

Fellow jury member Ramiz echoed the same view and said, "What was eye catching about the spell was the use of the crease and the angle that he developed to remain on top of the opposition. It was a masterclass from Zaheer Khan and he richly deserves the award."

Gilchrist won the one-day batting title for his 149 in the World Cup final against Sri Lanka, while Malinga got the bowler's award for claiming four wickets in as many balls against South Africa in the World Cup.

Both the Twenty20 batsman and bowler's awards went to Indian players.

Yuvraj took the batting honour for his destructive 70 off 30 balls against Australia in the semi-final even though the tournament would probably be known as one in which he clobbered Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over.

Left-arm seamer RP Singh won the Twenty20 bowler's award for his decisive 4 for 13 against the hosts in the World Cup in South Africa.

"Cricket awards are commonplace, but to us at Cricinfo they are a logical and inevitable extension of what we are about," Sambit Bal, editor of Cricinfo said.

List of winners:

Test batting - Kumar Sangakkara (SL): 192, Australia v Sri Lanka, 2nd Test, Hobart

Test bowling - Zaheer Khan (Ind): 5 for 75, England v India, 2nd Test, Trent Bridge

ODI batting - Adam Gilchrist (Aus): 149, Australia v Sri Lanka, World Cup final, Barbados

ODI bowling - Lasith Malinga (SL): 4 for 54, Sri Lanka v South Africa, World Cup, Guyana

Twenty20 batting - Yuvraj Singh (Ind): 70, India v Australia, World Twenty20 semi-final, Durban

Twenty20 bowling - RP Singh (Ind): 4 for 13, India v South Africa, World Twenty20, Durban.
